I own a NH TC21 w/ front loader and was looking to purchase a suitable 3ph finish mower sometime between now and Spring. I've seen a Woods 5' rear discharge that I really like. It would be used for cutting 3-4 acres of semi-hilly terrain. Has anyone used and/or seen this combination together. My concern would be if the TC21 has enough hp to power the mower.

I have a TC21D and use a Land Pride model 1560 5 ft. rear discharge 3 pt. finish mower for about 4 acres of hilly pasture. If the land is hilly this is probably the most finish mower the TC21D will handle. Sometimes on steep grades depending on the height of the grass the rpm's will drop a bit. Plan on using low range all the time and have the max weight on the front to keep the front end down when lifting and transporting the mower. Mowing flat land with this setup is no problem but the hillsides will work the 21 hp. even wide open.
I started out with a Land Pride 2560 5 ft. 3 pt. mower which is 120 lbs. more than the 1560, it was too much for the TC on the hills. The 1560 that I use now weighs about 490 lbs. which I think is about the same as the 5 ft. 3pt. Woods.
I want to get a loader sometime soon. How do you like the loader on your TC, what have you used it for, and what bucket do you have? Also, what are did you use for rear ballast? ....

Thank you for the info. I was curious if I would be mowing in low range or if the tractor would handle the mower in high. I kind of thought it would require low but was hopeful (at least on my flat ground) Icould get away with a little high range mowing. The Woods RD6000 sounds similar in weight to the landpride 15 series deck you described. I've anticipated leaving the loader on while mowing or getting some bolt on weights if the loader turns out to be too cumbersome around the trees on the lot.
So far I have been very pleased with the loader. However, this is my first tractor so I don't have much to compare it's performance with. I've used the loader quite a lot this summer moving dirt around some new construction, spreading rock over a very large drive and in conjunction with a box scraper to do quite a bit of grade work. For the most part the box scraper (about 250 lbs.) for the five footer that I have served well as a counter balance to a full loader. More recently I have bulit a "home-made" 3ph weight that I found at a web site. I'll try to include the link. It works well and is much more compact than the scraper. It weighs roughly 350- to 375 lbs., + or - a few pounds.
I bought the loader new with the tractor and am glad I did. It really is handy, even if one doesn't anticipate doing a lot of loader work. I have taken the loader off twice since I have had it and it is an easy process. About 10 minutes either way to take it off or put it on. It is a much easier process on solid, level ground with something to "push" against.
I couldn't imagine buying another tractor without a front loader. It's just way too handy to have around! ....

I own a TC18 which has 18.5 hp, and I use a Woods RD6000 on relatively flat land to mow about 3 acres. The TC18 is not rated for a 5' rear mower but
the dealer said it could handle it and it does a great job, with added weights
on the front (I don't have a loader). Your TC21 is rated for a 5' rear mower
in the brochures and I believe it should handle it great...don't know though
how hilly you are. The Woods is a real quality unit and weighs in considerably
higher than the Landpride 1560, the Woods weighs 605 lbs. with the chain shielding, closer to the weight of the one the other guy started with. Also, I
mow in high range all the time and have no problem. In addition, if your TC21
is a gear tractor, you have 1 more hp at the 3 pt. than the TC21D.

I just bought TC21D and the dealer also sold me a 5' rear discharge bush hog finish mower. I mow about 3 hilly acres. I also found it a little too much for the TC21D. I returned the mower and plan to buy a Land Pride 4' rear discharge,I think the model # is FDR1549. ....
